Our Mission:
The purpose of the Lucy Parsons Institute for Social Research is to investigate and evaluate the conditions, relationships, and dynamics of our society based on understanding the value of labor and the ownership of the means of production. We hope to positively impact labor and social movements through education and organizing. We will host meetings and workshops, as well as present papers and proposals, at conferences and forums, to impact public opinion on important issues and matters of the day.
Activities
Book Publishing
In 2021, we published Marxist-Leninist Perspectives on Black Liberation and Socialism by Frank Chapman, a community leader and veteran activist in Chicago. In 2023, we published The Revolutionary Science of Marxism-Leninism by J. Sykes. After the release of each book, public events and study groups were organized in over a dozen cities across the country to discuss the ideas of these books. Publishing books serves our educational purposes by studying, describing, and analyzing the conditions, relationships, and dynamics of our society. By promoting these publications to the public, and organizing discussions about them, we hope to educate the public on important social issues relevant to working class and oppressed people.
Web Hosting
Lucy Parsons Institute for Social Research provides web hosting and support to a number of progressive organizations, progressive and labor-oriented news outlets such as Fight Back! News.
Organizing
Organizing Support
Our National Organizer, Andrew Koch, spends about one-third of his time providing organizational and logistical support to various local activist and organizing projects across the country, including the labor movement, student movement, immigrant rights movement, the anti-war movement, the movement against police brutality, and others.
Forums, Conferences, Workshops and Classes
Through the efforts of our National Organizer, as well as volunteers across the country, the Lucy Parsons Institute for Social Research regularly organizes public forums, conferences, workshops, and classes on topics such as labor history, social movements, and community organizing in more than a dozen cities around the United States.
